Second Disability Jury Verdict of the Year

On Wednesday, May 24, 2023, SGT obtained its second disability discrimination jury verdict of the year! After a two-day jury trial northeast of Amarillo in Panhandle, Texas, a jury awarded SGT client, Sierra Neely, nearly $85,000 in damages including $50,000 in punitive damages against K&K, Inc. Ms. Neely was terminated from her employment less than two weeks after an on-the-job injury.

“Getting local residents to award $50,000 in punitive damages against a local business is no easy task, but we are glad the jury thought it was the right thing,” said Brittney Thompson. Matt Scott commented that “The law is simple: employers must protect employees from disability discrimination. SGT is happy that Ms. Neely’s jury enforced the law and held K&K responsible for violating her rights.”

The case is Sierra Neely v. K&K, Inc., cause number 12597, in the 100th Judicial District Court of Carson County, Texas.
